Leading in biological R&D and production
Our Boxmeer site is by far the largest biological R&D and production site in the Dutch pharmaceutical industry. With more than 500 employees (out of a total of 1,400) with a higher professional or university education, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health in Boxmeer is a center of excellence for the development, technology, marketing and production of vaccines. Every year, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health Boxmeer invests millions of euros in sophisticated technologies and systems for production and R&D. No wonder that the Boxmeer site calls itself the ‘Biosciences Center Boxmeer' within the Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health organization.
Based in Boxmeer
Boxmeer is not just an important site for R&D and production; it also houses Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health’s international headquarters and sales office in the Netherlands. This has created a working environment where people from many different countries and disciplines work together. Co-workers who would like to work abroad for a few years regularly have the opportunity to take up employment at an Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health facility abroad.
Work that matters
Outbreaks of infectious animal diseases and the resultant large-scale culling of animals have caused major social unrest in recent years. At Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, we are continually researching vaccines that could prevent or contain such outbreaks. And with success. We can now offer vaccines to control any outbreaks of swine fever, and have bird flue vaccines that can be administered to large groups of poultry at the same time – a giant leap forward compared to the previous generation of bird flue vaccines that had to be administered to each bird separately. Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is also working on the development of vaccines for companion animals such as dogs, cats and horses. These animals are becoming increasingly important to us, which is also reflected in the care that we devote to them. Finally, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health invests in the development of vaccines against so-called zoonoses, animal-borne diseases whose pathogens can also be infectious to humans. To that end, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health carries out studies into vaccines against salmonella and influenza, for example. In that way, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health’s products not only contribute to animal health but to human health as well. And that is work that really matters!
