In TRI-MERIT, we provide an integrated animal identification and data management system to support food safety, disease management and farm productivity initiatives in commercial food animal production. TRI-MERIT is a product provided by Global Animal Management (GAM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Schering-Plough, specializing in providing animal and premises identification systems to meet the growing demand for historical data about livestock.
Knowledge about both physiological and pathological aspects of reproduction in domestic animals is progressing fast. With our Partners in- Reproduction Program we aim to serve our customers eagerness to stay up-to-date with recent discoveries and applying them to daily practice. RESPIG, a dedicated website for veterinarians, farmers and other specialists in the swine health business, has been added to the range of tools offered to veterinarians and producers. The tool contains detailed information on porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC), vaccines available for the prevention and control of respiratory infections and other aids designed to help reduce economic losses caused by PRDC. In the Netherlands, we have introduced a method to detect bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) virus in calves – the Bovilis BVD EAR CHECK. BVD is a major problem for cattle farmers. The virus damages the immune system and can cause diarrhea as well as fertility, respiratory and growth problems. In the past, blood tests were used to detect infection, but now farmers can use a simple, fast and effective ear test to quickly identify any problems. When used in combination with BOVILIS BVD vaccine, the new method makes it possible for farmers to keep herds free of BVD.
