Schering-Plough Animal Health Lends Aid and Support to People and Pets Affected by Hurricane

Katrina Disaster Underscores Importance of Animal Identification

Schering-Plough Animal Health Corp. (SPAH) today announced that it has contributed nearly $130,000 to aid Hurricane Katrina relief efforts related to displaced animals and expressed its commitment to continue to provide support to organizations giving aid and assistance to displaced animals. Specifically, SPAH has donated rehabilitation supplies such as pharmaceuticals, vaccines, surgical tools and materials, as well as HOMEAGAIN® microchips and scanners.

“The situation Hurricane Katrina has created for animals in the Gulf Coast region is a sad reminder of the fact that even the most conscientious owners can be separated from their pets,” said Dr. Christopher Pappas, Director of Companion Animal Technical Services, Schering-Plough Animal Health. “Schering-Plough Animal Health and HOMEAGAIN ® Pet Recovery Service are working with veterinarians and rescue organizations to do whatever possible to help alleviate some of the suffering for displaced pets and reunite them with their owners.” The microchips and scanners are being donated in partnership with the manufacturer, Digital Angel Corporation.

The Schering-Plough Corporation as a whole has donated $500,000 in cash and committed $5 million in medicines and other products in support of the massive relief effort. The company has also established a special employee matching gifts program for all employees who choose to contribute to the relief effort. Organizations include the American Red Cross and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Disaster Relief Fund.

The HOMEAGAIN ® Pet Recovery Service is a safe, simple and permanent form of pet identification designed to identify lost pets and reunite them with their owners. A microchip with a unique identification code is implanted between the shoulder blades of the pet. This microchip is no bigger than a grain of rice.
