Intervet wins an award for a scientific poster presentation on its new product Zitac® Vet during the annual congress of the ECVIM-CA.
This year’s ECVIM-CA (European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Companion Animals) congress was held in Budapest, Hungary, from September 12 to 15, 2007. Intervet was awarded a prize for a poster on a double blinded, placebo-controlled clinical study, which examined the effects of a NEW product ZITAC® Vet, in dogs with vomiting due to chronic gastritis. Chronic gastritis is a condition, which if untreated, causes dogs to vomit several times per week for a period of weeks to months.
ZITAC® Vet, containing the active ingredient cimetidine, is approved for the reduction of vomiting episodes in dogs with this condition. Double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical studies provide the highest level of evidence that a product is effective. In this type of study the test treatment is compared with a placebo (identical tablets that contain no drug) so that the consulting veterinarian and pet owner do not know which treatment the patient is receiving.
Dr. Linda Horspool collected the award from Dr. Paul Mandigers, ECVIM-CA congress chairman, on behalf of the team and was delighted to win this award: “This award is recognition of Intervet’s dedication to supporting companion animal internal medicine. It also recognizes the efforts of the entire team; particularly those involved in the setting up and running of clinical trials at Intervet, the veterinarians and pet owners and their dogs who took part in the studies, involved in bringing ZITAC® Vet to the market.”
Intervet has been a main sponsor of the ECVIM-CA congress since 1999. As on of the largest animal health company’s, Intervet holds a leading position in veterinary specialty pharmaceutical products, such as CANINSULIN® (also known as VETSULIN®), VASOTOP® and KARSIVAN® (also known as VIVITONIN®). Intervet also regularly participates in the scientific program at the congress by presenting studies in the form of research abstracts or posters.
