CSR selection: Encouraging and facilitating knowledge-sharing
Jet-Net (Youth and Technology Network)
Jet-Net (Youth and Technology Network) is an initiative designed to stimulate interest among Dutch high school students in the pursuit of studies and future careers in science and technology. The scheme, which involves schools, industry and the government, was set up to address skill shortages in these fields.
At the Boxmeer site in The Netherlands, both Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health and Nobilon have access to a limited pool of potential employees with suitable qualifications in the science and technology sectors. As a result, they decided in 2006 to participate in the Jet-Net initiative in partnership with the local high school.
Continued recognition of outstanding veterinary students
The Intervet/Schering Plough Animal Health country organizations in Portugal and The Philippines both have a tradition of granting awards for outstanding veterinary students.
All Portuguese senior vet students can apply for the 4 Intervet Awards: Bovine, Pigs, Poultry and Companion Animals. The papers received are evaluated by an invited independent Key Opinion Leader and by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health Portugal’s corresponding species veterinarian.
In The Philippines the students of the top 3 veterinary universities are invited to apply for the Intervet Award. The recipient should not only exemplify academic excellence but should also excel in extra-curricular activities which includes social and interpersonal skills, important aspects to become a successful veterinarian.
Deventer course Poultry and Swine
The Deventer courses on Poultry or Swine Productions and Diseases have a long tradition as a service of Intervet to post-graduate veterinarians to follow a specialized course on swine and poultry diseases.
The majority of the participants originate from countries were no formal post-graduate schools are available. The responsibility for the curriculum is with the Animal Heath Institute in Deventer (The Netherlands), recognized globally as a leading institute on poultry and swine health.
The program is renowned for its practical aspects ranging from post mortem diagnostics to case investigations, including lectures by senior staff and farm visits.
Practical training biological and other students
Good contacts with universities and research institutes are essential to maintain our R&D and Production state of the art.
In Spain at the Animal Health Salamanca site, students and teachers of universities in the region are regularly invited for a visit. During a whole day our company, products and technology are explained. In additional several trainees are employed.
For the company it is an advantage to have access to recent scientific developments and to have a source for new employees already familiar to the management and the business processes.
